Hello mate, I asked exactly the same question a couple of months back on the aroc 166 forum, after buying one of those mods from ebay intending to put it on my car. A fellow member provided some sound advice which helped me make my mind up not to do it, and I quote:
"Three words of sound advice..."DON'T DO IT"
All these resistors do is fool the ECU into thinking the engine is running lean, so they send a bit more fuel through allegedly giving you more power..which is very debatable. What it does do is make your engine run richer than it should which will make your economy go up the spout, it will make you catalyst work harder than it should have to. Not only that, but the O2 sensor will be getting readings telling it to get the engine running leaner again..which mucks up the ECU even more, your plugs will get sooted up.....need I go on.
There were long discussions on the Alfa Digest about these gismos, and the guy on the digest who works for Fords Core Emissions Team in Detroit..and who also lectures on fuel science at the University of Michigan advised people to install them in the trash can where they can do no harm...,but not on a car..and NEVER on an Alfa
I've forgotten the guys name as I don't subscribe to the digest any more, but he is part of the team that takes a yellow 2 litre Alfa Spider to Bonneville each year, and get over 200MPH out of it, so he knows his stuff."
Hope this helps you make an informed choice as well mate.
All the best, Dan
