Throttle stuck open = brown pants momet!!
My throttle stuck wide open on a fortunately open road recently. I thought it would be the throttle body in need of a clean but I also noticed that the peddle had a certain stiffness to it.
I sprayed some light penetrating oil down the cable where it joins to the plate and all is repaired! Nice smooth throttle action and it no longer sticks.
I'm still going to give the throttle body a clean as this car had a gunked up MAF after spending a long time with a dirty K&N when I bought it (I think people really believe they don't have to touch them for 100k kms...).
So an FYI just in case this happens to anyone. Spray the cable if you feel a stiff peddle action before you get a brown trouser moment or worse!!!
