Re: 3.0 12V oil in water ?
I just went through a top end rebuild on the 24V. Symptons were the same but I also had water actually leaking out onto the floor from the front head!!! The wet cylinder liners can put a lot of preassure on the gaskets and if the heads are not tight as has been mentioned, water will get underneath eventually start to leak. I think that if you are getting gunk, it is more than likely from the head gaskets. You can try to retorque the heads but if water has been seaping under the heads for a length of time, the chances are you have corrosion and a proper seal will not be made unless you send the heads off to get plained and resurfaced. It's a pricey job but at least you get a good strong reliable engine afterwards.
BTW, inspecting my head gaskets showed that my problem had been due to loose heads as there was not a single part of the gasket which had a good seal on it.
