I strongly suspect one of my engine mounts has failed
- changing gear from 1st to 2nd (at a normal rate) elicits a large thump from under the bonnet.
The last straw was probably blasting past a BMW 5 series diesel who thought he was quick
So, I need to get under & check exactly what the problem is.
Having done that ( & assuming it is 1 of the mounts), do people recomend doing the job myself or getting it done?
It seems a simple operation - get the car in the air, support the engine on a jack, unbolt & remove the mount then reverse the proceedure.
But things are rarely as simple as they seem
Also, one of the mounts can be replaced by a modded SAAB mount (can't remember which, but i'll be trawling here & the 164 forum)
Has anyone done it & would anyone recomend it?
& i was hoping my next "big" job was changing the alternator belt
