Re: Looking for 3.0 - advice needed
I would not be worrying too much about miles on a 166, providing it has been serviced. The 60k miles sparkplug service is a significant cost, the 72k mile cambelt service is huge (£900 from a main dealer), so always helps if that one has been done.
Rear shocks are probably due about the 70k mile mark, they are a pig of a job and cost £800 ish from a dealer - good 6 hours labour. Clutch on a manual is probably going to need changing sometime soon at that sort of mileage too, though that is not a massive job.
Overall, £8k should buy you a very nice car indeed. If you are going to buy one with some miles on it, I would suggest keeping £1,000 back out of your budget for things that it will absolutely need in the near future.
Buy with a little common sense, and you will seriously enjoy the car.
Hope this helps,
