The gear change thing is worrying...how are your engine mounts? are you able to "rock" your engine by giving it a good pull/push (only try this when it's cold
and hold onto something solid like plenum) check to see if excessive movement.
Clutches tend to last between 40-70k miles dependent alot of course on driver.
If you take the car to a good dealership (if you know of one) and pop in and say you think you MAY need to book your car in to look at a problem but would they mind if one of their mechanics popped outside to give you a quick opinion, very often they will oblige...that way you could get some advice from someone who works on the cars every day. Best bet is to play dumb and say you are not sure if you are making a fuss about nothing but if their mechanic says it need to be fixed then you will get the work done there. If they say no then at least you can scrub that dealership off your list of places to give your money to in the future.
Thanks for your response, I guess my car is a bit of an oddball, The car has done 88k but had a new engine which I have all reciepts for at 56k, Funny you should mention the engine mounts and i think you may be onto something there, The top mount above the cambelt cover was replaced at 82k ( bear in mind the 56k engine change ), working on the theory that one strong part acts negativly against other weaker parts would lend me to thinking possibly a lower mount has gone now, could anyone shed light on whether an old broken mount would miss aline the engine enough to effect the gear change
I'm sure the engine change at 56k included a clutch, belt & pulley/tensioner change, I'll confirm this later when I check out the reciepts.
Mike, I think you may have set me on the right track though, the more i think about this the engine/gearbox could be sitting slightly off
, having said that the gear shift is smooth on short journeys hmmm
More to follow ....
p.s. your leaf is looking great
have a look in my garage here to see my old 12v leaf, sadly no longer with us as it was crushed.
