Just buying/bought 166 3.0 Super
this is my first post so firstly let me thank you for all the info you have posted on this site. It has been very helpful.
I have a 155 Silverstone which I have had for 11 yrs and it was time to get something newer. I looked for a 03-04, 156 2.0 Veloce for a while but somehow the drive did not inspire me. It was quite effortless (ie.e. BMWeque), with none of that Alfa bark that I was use to on the 155. it is however drop dead gorgeous. I then tried the 3.0 166 and knew this was the way to go. I have been looking for a car now for 3+months and I have now closed the deal (although I have not phisically seen the car, it is form a very reputable dealer). I hope to be picking it up next weekend. It is a blue with beige interior, 02 car with 50k miles, full main dealer service history, 17" alloys, CD changer, sat nav and from what I can gather all the toys. Although i have agreed the price, I have spoken to the previous owner and he said that it would be good to do a cambelt change and also change the shocks as they are a little soft now.
What I wanted to ask is:
1- Based on the comments here on the suspension being a little soft anyway, what mileage/age would you think it reasonable to change and what would the general cost be for all four sides @a main dealer.
2- Should I do the cambelt so early vs the 72k that the service book says or should I hold off
3- The 155 needs a new ECU, lamda sensor, a CAT and a left wing mirror. Any suggestions as to where I can get these second hand. The Alfa garage is quoting me £1,500 :-0
