My first question is about the clutch on the beastie - it seems very heavy and stiff with a very limited amount of travel. My feeling is that this probably means its time for a new one (it has done 106k) - does this sound about right?
How much will i be looking at for a new clutch, either from an independant garage or somewhere like an AA garage? Is the 166 clutch any more tricky than other cars and is it something you guys would be happy to let a good "back street mechanic" do?

Clutches on 166 are considered very heavy, but I guess it is something you get used to - I don't notice it at all
106k on original clutch sounds fine - depends on how it is driven etc anyway - if the gears engage fine & there is no slip when in blast off mode through 1st & 2nd then don't worry.
Clutch is £huge through dealer £450ish for a v6 through an independent & should be no harder than any other FWD car.
If you are unsure whether the belts & stuff have been done (every 36k miles suggested for a TS) - then get a massive service (ie a 60k & a 72k combined) & get the clutch done at the same time & barter (they will probably take the engine out & do all the bits together - less fiddly).
May cost £8-900 for all that but will not need any major work for a long time hopefully.
For the £2k you paid, you have got a fantastic car, one of the best executive cars, and something rare at the same time.
How did the purchase go? Was the ebay description accurate & have you got all the books, service logs, keys etc.?
