Re: Fluid leaking into cabin - where from?
Ok, its definately coolant.
Now, please bare with me as I don't know my 164 very well yet, and don't know the names of different parts of the car. And remember, my car is RHD (Australian-delivered).
I had a good look with a torch, and have traced the leak to a rubber seal that is located deep under the centre of the dashboard. This seal is between the black plastic section of the dash, and a metal-type material, which seems like it joins into the engine bay.
It seems that it is only leaking from one section of the seal, and it only spills out onto my feet when I am taking a left corner at a decent speed (not crawling). Similarly, some has leaked into the passenger footwell (left front), but no where near as much. I assume this occurs when turning right, rather than left.
Now for some questions;
I wonder if some Radiator anti-leak product might fix this seal?
Does anyone know the name of the seal and section of the car I am referring to?
I cannot find the instructions on getting to, and changing, the heater core - can someone point me a little closer??? And would these instructions be incorrect for me, because I have a RHD Australian 164?
Any Aussies out there, any idea on a rough price on parts/labour to get a mechanic to fix this for me? Worst-case scenario figure?
How corrosive is the coolant. How long can I leave this unfixed without causing damage to other components (carpet, electrical, etc)? Days? Weeks? I'm starting to get a little stressed as to how much damage I am causing and how quickly I need to act.
I can take the car off the road for a week or so to fix it myself, as I still have my 33 to drive. I don't have a workshop manual, or cardisc CD for the car yet. Would you recommend attempting to do this myself based only on the instructions/info I can gather on this forum?
Thanks for all your help so far. I really look forward to anything else you guys can put forth that might help!
