Had a look at a 1992 164Q today and after a pretty thorough inspection, these are the negatives that I found:
+ The rear-right shocker had orange-brown rust at the top of it.
+ The car pulled a little to the left when driving without my hands on the steering wheel. It was only slight but it was enough to notice.
+ Small puff of smoke when car was revved to 6k RPM (which, I suppose, can be expected from a 12 year old car).
+ I tested the handbrake by engaging it whilst the car was moving and it didn't have much of an effect on the car at all.
+ Clutch seemed a tad stiff and heavy (compared to my 33), even though a new clutch was installed recently. The seller said this had something to do with the suspension damper rubbing against one of the clutch components in the engine bay ???
+ The tappets were a bit noisy whilst the car was idling.
+ The paint was bubbling off the left side-mirror arm (where the mirror connects to the body of the car).
Other than that, the car was in good condition. Last belt change was 20,000km ago (recommended every 50-60,000km), air/con stepper motors didn't click when ignition was turned on, and air/con worked OK, electronic suspension has been recently overhauled. Engine bay was clean and dry. All electrics worked fine.
What do you guys think about this? The rusty rear shocker and the tappet noise concerns me the most.
