There's been too many disaster stories recently but here's some better news from me.
Last weekend I fired the 'beast' up for the first time since the valve munching incident in September 2008.
This was quite an event - the engine caught immediately but ran somewhat unsteadily, hunting up and down with tappets rattling and the throttle not working
During this time an emergency shut down was called for as about 4 litres of engine oil appeared to be running down the driveway
Some problems to sort out.
Hunting and lack of throttle response - fixed by attaching the connector plug to the throttle body
The oil leak - some silly **** (er, that would be me) had managed to leave the O-ring from the old oil filter stuck to the engine and put the new oil filter on top of it
Here's a good tip - no matter how hard it is to see the sealing flange for the oil filter, make a visual check to make sure it is clean and free of old O-rings.
Engine started again and warmed up but tappets still noisier than I would have liked.
After an overnight shutdown (during which time I was wondering just how I could justify the purchase of 24 tappets
) I started the engine up and the tappets were quiet - oh joy
