Re: Should I replace my aux belt before my 1000 mile trip.
A knackered tensioner led to my aux belt almost shredding itself. It cost me £175 inclusive of labour to replace the aux belt and all associated parts at my local Alfa independent.
He said he has seen a lot of aux belts go and because they in a confined space and their route around all those rollers/pulleys on the side of the engine is a complex one, when they go they make it known (they are pretty rigid belts and can make enough of a commotion to take out the cambelt.
As you look in your engine bay, remove the front LHS cover and you can see the aux belt, it is not enclosed like the cambelt. Have a close look and if anything looks untoward (smooth edges like it is rubbing, or any fraying) get it changed.
