Re: Moment of madness...

I run mine mostly on BP Ultimate or Shell VMax, with just the occasional 95RON fillup when I get caught out. Personally I can't tell the difference in the driving, but when I first made the switch (about a year into ownership) I did notice the fuel economy improve by about 2 MPG.

Regarding the impreza test I believe that Turbo cars have most to gain from higher octane petrol, though can't remember why!

Re: Moment of madness...

Altea confused with Alfa? - well it was a long, long day.
Fortunately for the Altea, Millers produce a very good diesel additive/cetane improver which does make a big difference to Morrisons "cheap" diesel, without any doubt at all. And it works out cheaper than using Shell or BP diesel premium. (Although the diesel is still as much per gallon, if not more than BPs ultimate petrol.....)
Diesel fuels are even more variable than petrol in terms of quality and oomph, especially on a mapped turbo.
I take no notice of what admen state or claim - you only have to look at cosmetics and pharmacuetical industry to see the bull****e they come up with, technically "correct" but really pushing the envelope in terms of credibility. I go on what i find in the real world.

Re: Moment of madness...

The Way of the future....will be burning Ethanol !
Our Alfas are high compression, its possible to replicate petrol with Ethanol + Methanol + Toluene, the way Alfa did on the 1930's for the racing cars.

With recent global slowdown, fuel is a bit cheaper.
Next year the oil-sands start producing fuel to increase supply, and two years from now the very large Mexican Gulf fields come on stream too.

They said we'd run out of fuels back in 1973 - its now 2008.....
