No longer got a 155, had a flirtation with an A4 Quattro (at least it was manual - and BORING), now own a stunner of a 164 QV. Stunning - apart from a previous owner who knew sod-all about maintenance and technical background of the car.
So theres a fantastic tear in the air-box to plenum hose.
Solutions are as follows - I hgave gone the Pratley's 123 + race tape route, this will work - for a while. previous repair worked for a while too, until stresses broke the tear further, letting air in ultimately. Useless. Race tape is holding well, but the glue is not happy with high temperatures. Insulation is saving it, but there is also heat being transmitted from the engine. which does not help.
Option 2 - visit firestone, get a truck tire patch, slice it thin, and use vulcanising compound to anneal the hose. A cheap solution, will let you know how it goes, and it may go very well indeed - the rub will be in the strenght of the patches, but I have hope - tyres undergo worse stresses, and the vulcanising compound is the same as is used on re-treads. Those things never let go, so its a good solution.
Option 3 - vulcanise away, but use a sacrificial hose off another 164, sliced so that it fits over the old one. I like this idea a lot, but where to get one ?
Option 4 - some guardian angel will know where I can get hold of a spare. Contis in Auckland was patently useless- they can;t get one. Penrose Italian Auto Centre was better - they are giving a try, but no luck. Haven't tried the Italian Job on Nth Shore, but I might get lucky.
This is an international appeal - I need to get hold of one of these hoses for a 164 QV 2WD RHD Manual - does anyone know of where I might find such a thing ?
Does anyone know alternatively of a compatible pod filter ?
Please feel free to drop me a line here, or else offer sage advice, I am all ears right now. the car's driveable, but I have to be careful.
