Another point, I don't know if the programme covered it, is that with so much uncertainty over job security plus the awful trade in values people will hold back.
Last year, we had thought we'd change MrsJim's Picasso some time in 2009. We've had it from new in 2002. It has been faultless, cost "nothing" in servicing really, only done about 42k and stands us at nowt.
The thing is, it is probably worth next to nowt and a new Mito would cost £12-£15k (??) for a tidy spec and we'd have to pay finance costs. With the bargains to be had you then find yourself realising that you'll lose maybe £8-10k of that £12-15k in 3 years so why not take a 57 or 08 plate GT/other bargain at less money than a Mito?
Finally you realise the best course of action with a reliable car that's worth very little is to simply hang on to it.
