Gunge in the water expansion tank
I've been monitoring this 'issue' since I've had my 166. There is like a brown, creamy sludge that seems to collect in the water coolant expansion tank cap and a little bit inside the top of the expansion tank itself. The antifreeze still looks a clear dark blue colour so hopefully it's just grime and dirt that has collected over a period of time.
Anyone else got the same or a similar issue?
Of course, my biggest fear is a weeping head gasket but the car uses no oil and there has never been evidence of water in the oil either. I never take the car above 3,000 rpm until it's properly warmed up. The car pulls like a train and sounds sweet. With all services done by the book as well as the major cam belt/water pump/tensioner changed just before I got the car, I'm really failing to see this as a major problem. It's just a niggle that I thought I'd put to the rest of you 166 drivers out there!
Rockin' all over the road!
