Re: Bit OT: Maserati QP IV vs Alfa 166
I talked myslf into a 430 once, using 'Petrolhead' logic that went something like this:
The diff was British
The turbos were Japanese (were they?)
The gearbox was German
The aircon was Swiss (again - is this a false memory?)
The Engine was Italian (but I trust Italian engines)
So that covered all the big expensive bits that might break, and I had enough Alfa/Lancia/Fiat experience to not fear the electrics too much. I didn't plan to keep it long enough for the body to deteriorate significantly.
It came from Bill McGrath and looked great in dark blue with cream leather.
However, it wasn't nearly as good as the 75QV that preceded it, I nearly put it through a hedge backwards the day I got it, and the German gearbox broke expensively. Oh, and the fusebox cooked itself (also expensively).
I don't regret it as it was a laugh and I can't say I wouldn't go through the same self-deluding process to get a QV if I could afford one today, but I'm sure a 166 is in almost all respects a better car.
