Here are the latest thoughts on the sinusoidal curve of 'fix - no fix' decision makingness
With the help of my good friend and neighbour (area service manager for well known dealership) I can get the bits for £990
. This does not include valve guides and fitting thereof. I won't know if they're needed until I strip the heads. If they're needed then it may be too expensive to repair and the debate would continue a while longer.
I would plan to keep the 166 as my weekend toy and project/money drain for a while
All this takes time of course and, no matter what the outcome of the deliberations, we are thinking of getting a Fiat Bravo 150 T-Jet Sport (now now, stop sneering at the back there
) on the Motability scheme. My daughter gets DLA but we've avoided the Motability stuff up to now because of the dearth of remotely attractive cars and the 10000 mile per year limit over 3 years. Things have improved with a mileage limit of 20000 over 3 years (you can get Alfas now but the initial deposit is a bit high).
Mrs Ken drove one yesterday and was impressed - I'm having a test drive tomorrow.
If approved we can thrash the Fiat for 3 years and hand it back.
I've hired a Corsa 1.2
for a couple of weeks - now that's a car that's on the bland side of mediocrity. It does have cancelling indicators and working RS wipers, mind you.
