can anybody help?

can anybody help i just got a 166 16v and as i was coming down the motorway i lost engine power and the engine was smokin blue (lots) out the back tail pipe and after pulling on to hard shoulder wouldnt turn over till it cooled down rac say the crankshaft has gone is this true and if so can it be replaced or is at new engine time any help would be very welcome as the car is stuck in hotel car park 40 mile away

Doesn't sound good....but then you knew that...

I'd guess that it has overheated and semi-seized - the blue smoke can be from burning oil. If the crank has gone you'd also get a knocking from the bottom end....though there is a good chance of crank damage if its heat-seized.

Difficult to say remotely, but I would have to say that given the cost of rebuilding the twin-sparks, you might be better off getting a second-hand engine - although the 166 engine is harder to find, as it has significant differences from the other 16v engines...
