Yesterday I took the Q4 to the Alfa dealer at Cholet, Halles des Sports, about 50 miles from here to get the codes read. I had changed the crankshaft sensor in the hopes of curing a cut out and, sod's law, it never missed a beat all the way there or when being road tested!
L30 ARO was then put on the diagnostics and NOTHING came up, even though the cutting out had been going on for some time. I must say something about this dealer. The car had been booked in for 2.15pm so I managed to arrive at 2.10pm. There was a big board up greeting me and I handed the keys over to the Service Manager. He invited me to help myself to espresso or cold drinks - F.O.C.!
Once the paper work had been done I was asked to go out with the workshop manager who drove the car. He told me that it was one of the best Alfas he had ever driven
The car was then taken into the workshops whilst I had a look at all the new Alfas, Lancias and FIATs. It's not surprising that FIAT Spa is now the most successful car company in Europe.
I was looking at a rather badly finished 159 1.9 Ti Sportwagon (bonnet shut lines) when the Service Manager arrived with the Dealer Principal, to whom I was introduced.
Before I knew it I was in the DP's office talking Alfas and stating that the time might soon arise for Mme. A's 320d to be given the chop.
An hour later I was with the Service Manager and asked for my bill.
"Nothing," was his reply
Well then came the next problem. I pulled into an autoroute service station for fuel and on restarting there was just a clunk. I shall recover the car Monday by initially trying to tow start it and if that fails have it recovered.
As some of you may know the car has just had an extensive overhaul and I am supposed to be selling it. Mme. A was less than pleased at having to drive the GTV to collect me, particularly as she had never driven it before! I'd had a problem get hold of her as my French mobile wouldn't allow me to call home so I had to ring my son in Sweden and get him to call her!!!
Any ideas to make me feel better?
I had awful thoughts of a seized engine in my dreams last night but the car has just had the cooling system overhauled and an oil change (Castrol Edge as always). The battery is a very meaty new Vartar. I checked the compresssions before the overhaul in March and they were all perfect...
