Re: Help Please? for a good old 164super
What year is the car? There was something odd (can't quite remember what) about the early 164 top strut bearings. 164s are odd anyway, in that they have a big yellow plastic bearing at the BOTTOM of the spring (between the spring pan and the strut body) and they have a bearing at the TOP of the strut as well. The top one changed at some point. I found this out the hard way when I ordered some new dampers and got a pair that wouldn't fit the top bearing. I had to buy the top bearings that went with the newer type of damper. Obviously in your case, the last thing you'd want to do is buy a new pair of dampers! I've also a feeling that the top bearing is a very simple ball bearing race that you could probably pick up from a bearing factor anyway - so if you can get it out of the housing, it might be worth taking it to a bearing factor.
I'll have a root through my old junk pile tonight and see if I can find one to have a look at because I can't quite remember what they look like just now!
