Re: 1996 Alfa 164 Super 24V - A/C Gas Type ?!
I checked the temp settings and on HI or above the outside temp uit began mixing hot with cold air to come out warm and on HI it became very HOT to bare (we are at 26 C at the moment already hot !)
I did check the pollen filter and its box was cold, so was the mixing Chamber (heat & A/C air is mixed) it was cold too, not that cold but cold.
The A/C still blew out nothing but slightly cool air. Even at LO no difference.
The problem I saw was liquid moving from the spyglass I believe it shouldn't do that. Its not drying the Gas enough I think. I compared the coldness of the pollen filter and when removed there was no difference in temp inside. I noticed however that the Pollen Filter Box was much cooler earlier in the morning when the temp outside was still 16 -17 C. Its as when the temp rises outside the A/C won't cool anymore... weird. Even the pollen filter box although cold not freezing the air wouldn't have been too cold to cool the car, it was the same temp coming out of the vents when I put my hand next to them, Otherwise nothing.
I belive that the A/C is working but somehting is wrong, either the drier which is leaving it in liquid form rather than not allowing liquid to form or the valve but I think its the Drier. Someone here told me that it can only last a few mins if the A/C system is opened and i know for a fact that the filter was disconnected and left overnight in 99% Humidity Malta !
The heat/cold flapp is working fine, checked if its not closing all, I removed the conecting wire and it couldn't close anymore than it alread was. So its not the stepper motor.
Just a thought, since the 164 Super uses the a Climate Control, the heater box just shuts off the Hot Air from coming in, but the box itself still gets pretty warm, so the A/C should be compensating for that loss by cooling more. However as I said earlier in the Day with the Outside temp low the A/C was working fine, not freezing but quite cold, always using the recirculate flap to see that its cooling inside with its own air. Oh and that flap works too checked.
I'm puzzled I have no Idea what could be the problem, is it the filter, the Valve. What does the valve actually do ?
I ordered in the meantime the Filter/Dryer and the Evaporator Valve as a precaution and to change as recommended, problem is they will arrive in 5 weeks and I don't know if they are the culprits !!
