Adventures of 166 ownership
Thought I would share my stormy first 2 months of 166 ownership with you all. Following my first foray into Alfa ownership with a Black 2.5 Sportronic I was hooked from the start, it took alot of finding something to replace my Saab 95 Aero Hot due to needing an automatic, but thought I'd found heaven with the Alfa.
However 6 weeks into ownership and a 'wind' noise starting to become noticebale after half an hour of driving, which steadily got worse. Eventually booked it into my local garage to sort it out, 2 days later I got the phone cal I suspected but dreaded "I'm sorry sir but your transmission is shot". To have the unit overhauled including labour to remove and refit it will be approximately £2600. Once I had wiped away the tears I listed the vehicle on Ebay selling it bit by bit (still bits available by the way) and visited the Bank Manager to persuade him I had to have another Alfa 166.
Following a few weeks of visiting alledged "excellent condition" and "low mileage" vehicles, I stumbled across a newly advertised 3.0 Lusso. Straight away I was on the phone and the vehicle sounded just the thing for me, it was even Black the same as my previous motor with all the toys. The best bit was it had 67,000 miles with a full history file to back it up. Following the viewing of some e-mailed pictures a price was agreed and a deposit paid.
Not my usual way of buying a car, but it sounded a good one with a history and I was determined not to lose out just because it was 170 miles away. Any way that was at the beginning of this week and last night I arrived home after a 175 mile journey with a GREAT BIG SMILE on my face the whole time ( I just hope it lasts this time).
The vehicle is not perfect as it has a couple of scraps on the bumpers and a few light scratches here and there, and I need to start on that uphill climb of obtaining the ICS and Nav unit codes due to the vehicle having been laid up over the winter, which appears it was every year come November.
I have been an avid reader of the forum since my first purchase a couple of months ago and have found it interesting, informative and sometimes funny. I think it's great how everybody is so willing to help. So thanks to everybody who I've learned from so far.
