Re: Air Con pipe replacement
Unfortunately, I doubt a generic one will physically fit unless Alfa decided to use off-the-shelf parts for the job. I got mine from a place called 4 Seasons...but they stopped selling to Joe Public a while back when they were taken over. Try and find a local A/C specialist (rather than an Alfa specialist) and see what they say - they might do you a deal to fit a new receiver/dryer and re-commission the system. There's a chance that the after-market suppliers will do one for the 166. Got to be worth a call at least. Expect to pay about £60 or so for a basic purge & re-charge plus probably £100 + to supply & fit the receiver/dryer at Alfa prices. Give you a guide at least I suppose.
I just had a quick look on e-learn. According to the pictures, the unit is located near the rad. If you lift the cover for the washer bottle, you'll probably see it easily. I have to confess that I've hardly looked under the bonnet of our car since we got it - I must be slipping!! I'll try and remember to have a quick nose tomorrow morning. Basically, if it's that easy to see, it'll probably be easy to change as well, which will help the price of course.
End of the day, it'll work if you just replace the damaged pipe and get it charged up, but it WILL shorten the life of the system if you don't also replace the receiver/dryer. It might pay you to just do the pipe and get it re-charged, then see how it goes. There's always a chance there's something else wrong that might make you re-think the whole idea anyway!! (Full of happy thoughts, aren't I!).
