I never know what Z F is talking about either.
I usually always follow Zulu's advice quite easily.
It is easy to tell if it has been done right, look for tipex marks on the cam belt cover and you will know it has been done with using locking tools, I can more or less guarantee it won’t be done properly as to do it properly takes about 6-7 hours and cost of the parts alone is about £400.
I thought that tippex marks meant that locks hadn't been used.
BUT worst case no tippex AND no camlocks
When I did mine it took me a couple of weeks First time too.No tippex and no belt .All doom and gloom and advised engine wrecked and no one would do it for me.Most of the time was getting the cranshaft nut off.TDC established by means of big screwdriver and right eye.Wasn't far out as it has done around 20K since then and fine.Although ,when major loss of power only on hills and strange smell off of exhaust I put into an ALFA DEALER and 4 days later got it back .Timing was a wee bit out but that was after 10K.Possibly should have used my left eye. DET said a wee flat spot and would required a lot more investigation.I declined and a £38.50 bosch sensor cure all its ills.
great car but expensive to maintain
Only if you don't do it yourself.
that is why they are such good value.
101 percent correct
BUT my cars are not valued in the latest Whit Car guide I browsed at ASDA this afternoon.
BUT to me they are priceless warts n all.
The covers are quite easy to take off on check to see if they look new.Especially the tensioner.
I would suggest to get the waterpump done at the same time.
I think Zulu means mark the old ones with marks which you would know and see if they are there after the job done..but as you dont have the car not as easy..007 James (Sean Connery) Bond did it with a hair taken from his head but as I am bald like Aldo Zilly I cannot do this either.
Hope this doesn't confuse you more.
