Jumped out of car yesterday evening on double yellow lines to run in to a shop to collect something. Locked the car as usual with the red plip key. Ran back out about 20 seconds later to jump back in and move. Key wouldnt open the car!!! Ended up I got a lift back to the house which was very close. Checked voltage on batteries in key and got 6v reading and read on here about dry solder joints so I used a hot air/solder gun and ran it over any suspect joints. Still nothing!
Went back up to the car and opened it with the key in the door and alarm went off. Wasnt sure if there was immobiliser but chanced it anyway. Started up the car and drove it back home complete with siren and blinking hazard lights!!!
Bit confusing at traffic lights when people started to drive around me thinking the car had broke down when it was working and I was just actually waiting for lights to change!!
Anyway, got it home, parked it up and relocked the doors, have looked at key again since and cant see anything OBVIOUS wrong with it. Bought 2 new batteries this morning, (AT A COST OF 14 EUROS!!!!!!!!!!!
) just in case......and still nothing!
At this stage, I would like to just disarm the alarm and use the key in the door. By the way, I have only 1 key!! The thing is, from what I read, the siren is under fuses in rear of car, but will the hazard lights still blink every time I start the car or how do I totally disarm the alarm?? I have a GTV also and it has a little key to do this job but from what I have read so far, the 166 didnt come with one of these keys
