Re: 166 - what to go for 2.0, 2.5 or 3.0?
I went to see a 54k mile car on Saturday. Quite sad really as it was in terrible condition. Body was perfect, but there where so many things wrong with it - I'd guess it had a very patchy history TBH. I did have a short test drive just to get the feel, but it had a bad vibration, steering wheel was on the skew, it felt fidgetty at the back so I assume the bushes where shot, transmission was a bit odd, but given it had a totally flat battery when I arrived, it could just be it hadn't had time to do any learing?? A/C didn't work (ICS reported a fault and it made some nasty noises when I asked to to comeone), spec was a bit on the weak side, it needed tyres & discs. etc etc. Talking of sun bleaching, both front & rear Alfa badges on this one had completely faded - strange.
Contrast this with the car I bought on Sunday. Chalk & cheese.
Speaking as a fully paid up armchair expert who has only ever driven a couple of 3.0 Sportronics for a short distance......for me, it had to be the 3.0, but having said that, I would consider a 2.5 manual to replace our second car once we've saved some cash again. (we run 2 tin-tops and 2 'fun' cars). It would depend on condition and spec I think. A good 2.5 would be better than an average 3.0 (obviously!).
Good luck with the hunt.
