volume dial

Hi @ll,

I have a liittle problem with my car. Volume dial in the radio is not working. There is sound in the speakers and everything works fine, but when it comes to turning up/down volume it doesn't work. Only chance do to it is to use bass and treble level. Alfa service told me that only thing they can do is to replace whole central console (EUR 2500) what is more then half of price I paid for my car. Any ideas what to do, or maybe address of place where I could fix it whithout spending all my money?

Re: volume dial

Yes it could be easily repaired,I had a loose volume control on
a previous 166 ,and when I tightened it up I noticed it was a standard rotary potentiometer type,no doubt available from the likes
of Maplins,it would entail removal of the ICS(covered on here in detail),but it should be relatively easy once its' out to remove and solder in a new component, you certainly wouldnt' need a new ICS,
anyway if you do need a new ics they turn up on E bay from 100.not
the 1000s' quoted by dealers, just make sure you get the code card!
