Re: 166 2.0 TS - what to check when buying.
well, due to some problems with the mustang refusing an easy solution, i purchaced a cheaper 166 so i had a car for the interim
this one is almost identicle, but with 106,000 miles on the clock. the backlight on the ICS packed up on the way home, but other than that its really nice, its a cat C write off, but i can only assume it should have been a cat D as there is nothing more than a golf ball sized dent on the drivers door, and a 3" long scratch on the rear passenger door.
the car is currently at Days in Milton Keynes getting a new cam belt, variator, and some other odds and sods as well as a fresh MOT (nesicary to return a cat C to the road)
all i have to do after that is a VOSA VIN number inspection, and it can be registerd in my name. oddly enough, after the MOT, you can drive the car without the vin check provided it has MOT tax and insurance.
ok, so the car will never be worth top dollar, but at £1375 its a real result.
incidently, i decided it was probably better to buy a cheaper car with some common faults, and sort it, than a more expensive one that will later develop those same common faults..
