Re: Clutch Pedal: Limited travel 166
1. Sorry for not updating this thread earlier. It has been a long a winding road, this one.
2. The problem appears to have been a valve, very near the lever that operates the clutch itself. This was replaced, but then failed again! The latest replacement, fitted, yesterday has transformed the clutch - its now better than when I bought the car new in 2004!
Just to summarize the symptom and solution. The clutch first became so stiff that the pedal could not be depressed. This happened without any warning. The problem was 'fixed' by and alfa dealer, who replaced a valve, which is supposed to damp and reduce judder (apparently). I appears that the replacement part was faulty, because the symptom reoccurred (although to a lesser extent). I used the car for a couple of weeks, but the symptom worstened. The car was then returned to the dealer to check over. The fluids were drained, but the clutch pedal travel wasn't fixed. So, the mechanic suggested changing the valve under parts warranty. Picked the car up today. The clutch is fantastic, with a lovely gradual uptake. In fact, its way better than when the car was new. This reminds me to say that when I first bought the car I took it back to the dealer saying the clutch was a bit bity and juddery - not terrible, but not good. I was fobbed off, but perhaps that original valve was a bit shakey right from the start.
Anyway, I hope this account helps members. The job cost £200!
