OK I have one
and I'm excited about it. Deposit paid and pick up next week.
A 2002 6 speed 2.0TS (commuting distance prohibited anything bigger) with grey leather and in silver. 85k (ALfa main stealer FSH belts done and recent service etc.) but you wouldn't know - no stone chips on bonnet for example, dents, cracks etc and the interior like the exterior is spotless - event he armrest looks unused.
Got money off the asking price, 12 months MOT, 6 month warranty (yes may be just a piece of paper at the end of the day) and some juice in the tank for when I pick her up next week. Of course there is no cable to be found near the battery for the cd changer to be plugged into so will have to sort that and invest in the latest Loudlink version.
Finally found a car that the seller has bothered to make saleable. I saw a shocker a few weeks ago - flat battery, both front tyres flat and more stone chips than paint - oh and obviously broken window switch and probably in need of a new variator by the sound. Didn't even get to the service book. Wouldn't have minded but wasn't even at a bargain basement price. I saw a second one not far away where the sale receipt had been left in the car from saying sold as "non runner". Not exactly going to inspire a potential buyer finding that type of info.
Anyway the car I have bought is very clean and 1 previous owner and while I have probably paid a slight premium I am hopeful she will be worth it. I did the same with my GTV and she has rewarded me with near perfect behaviour bar the usual - trip down to Kent today and back an example.
Looking forward to the journey in the 166 though. BTW I tried the old "CLim and Dark" button thing too on the ICS and got a basic data screen that also stated left hand drive. Thankfully I have all the info required.
After reading the posts here for a while now my overall conclusion is that I feel like I have got myself a bespoke bit of kit that only a limited audience know about and something that is just that little bit special. My brother inlaw is ordering an A6
and it will be interesting to compare the two side by side.
Will keep the 166 for a couple of years and then Face Lift here I come - with a bigger engine of course.
I'm almost looking forward to posting my first issue
(said ironically but hey I'm an Alfa owner already and a realist)
