I was adviced by Squadra not to use GTA camshafts + remap, because the gearbox rpm-limit is programmed in the gearbox cpu, and not in the engine cpu. The net gains in bph and Nm would be actually low compared to the price, as you cannot benefit from the GTA camshafts at the rev-range between 6700 and 7200 rpm. Though with a manual 6-gearbox, it would be worth every single Euro. The CDA kiyt is also on my wish list, not really for performance -if any- but for it's nice sound. But yes that means taking some time for a proper fitment and taking care of a good direct cold air flow.
But if anyone knows if and how the gearbox limiter can be moved up, I might reconsider???
Thanks Tjeerd 166,
I have been advised that I will benefit with better torque between 4000 and the 6400 RPM cutoff. For me, that was enough of a selling point, + Dawie, said I would see a difference, and he's been modding alfa's since the early 70's, so I don't question him. I just say Yes Sir and Pay... Anyway, I will fit the cams and redo the map on the Unichip and post the dyno sheets...
I have also been told that the gearbox has an ecu with a separate limiter.. I think Autodelta can crack it, well I have been told so by a friend. Dunno how true it is but will call Jano and find out. In the meantime, I'm a very happy man... my 166 is gonna go faster and sound better....
What more could I ask for. Life is beautiful when you drive an Alfa Romeo, especially here in Dubai, where everyone else drives Yank Tanks like the 300c, Lumina SS's and the usual German marques... I always stand out..
By the way, checked the link, nice sounding exhaust, very niiiice... what mods have you done on your motor.. other than that nice sounding exhaust?
