Windscreen wiper alignment

I recently cleaned up the contacts on the windscreen wipers following the instructions provided on this board to stop them behaving eratically. This worked excellently and now they are behaving themselves.
However, I do not seem to be able to set the driver side wiper to sweep across the screen correctly. If I set it to stop at the right point by the bonnet it does not stop parallel to the side of the windscreen but at an angle to it.
I think this has something to do with the second, small arm that attaches to the drivers side wiper. At the bulkhead end it is held in place by a small plastic cover that looks like a baseball cap. The "peak" on mine seems to be broken off. Does this clip onto the small arm via the peak and so if it is broken it may not be keeping the small arm in the right movement phase.
Any thoughts gratefully appreciated.

Re: Windscreen wiper alignment

Here's a picture of the arm end on my 166. Both ends of the small arm have plastic ball joint sockets that snap onto metal balls. At the bulkhead end there's a ball next to the spindle and at the wiper end there's a ball on the small link at the wiper.
