smiles to the gallon

Had a mis-fire recently in my 2001 twinnie which after new plugs, borrowed coils and leads seemed to have disappeared but ever since my fuel consumption has dropped from 28mpg average to around 22mpg .Performance feels as norm ,no flat spots,or hesitation. No scary orange light to speak of so i"m a bit confused.
Could the mis-fire have knocked out one or three of the lambda sensors? please help

Re: smiles to the gallon

you might be on to something here, have noticed temp. gauge not moving off cold to quickly, also gurgling noises coming from the dashboard when fan heater is on . Is there a bleed screw into the heater matrix? Maybe I should try to blank off part of the radiator to see if it gets to temperature quicker before I invest in a thermostat & housing

no, don't waste your time - if the gauge isn't in the middle then the 'stat is buggered. Takes 20 mins to change and is about 30 quid....

Best advice I've heard for ages. Just get new stat.

The number of posts elsewhere where somebody tries to convince themselves and others that the stat is ok if the car gets warm once a year.

Re: smiles to the gallon

This site taught me that Alfa thermostats are terrible. I've had three 164s and three buggered thermostats. Two different mechanics told me that thermostats very rarely go wrong and that it must be something else and they've tested all sorts of stuff. I've said "just humour me" twice and it's sorted it out. The last time I said, "my thermostat's gone" they just replaced it. And lo and behold it fixed it again.
