166 headlights

ok, yet again this subject is to be brought up, btu this time with a twist:
can someone with a Pre facelift 166 and Halegon bulbs do the following and tell me what they see:

1. turn your switch to the right once - look into headlight and which light is lit?
2. turn the switch to the right again(ie fully there) - now what lights do you see?
3. pushyour indicator stick to put them on full beam - try not to blind your slef but which lights are lit?

Cheers, i ahave done the above and am confused....as i think at stage 2 there should be 3 bulbs lit but i only see 2??

Re: 166 headlights

well yes, but how many bulbs do you have in the assembly? i have 3, a tiny one for side lights, the one behind the round bulb (xenon lookingthing) and then the what i would think is the main beam one, btu my question is should the main beam one show a dipped version when at point number 2?

Re: 166 headlights

no - the dipped beam is in the projector thingy....the full beam isn't a dual filament like some cars and only comes on when full beam is on (if that makes sense?)

Re: 166 headlights

yup does make sense and answers the question!
But why then does it look so dark in there when they are all on? if i move to the floor it's bright. i think it might be allignment but i hav adjusted it as much as i can and still no different.....

how can i adjust the projector thingy to make it brighter?
i could also i suppose replace the side lights to make them whiter/brighter? (they look a bit dull and yellow as they are...

Cheers so far Niall

Re: 166 headlights

yeah, you can get blue tinted side light bulbs which look nice and white...or you could try LED ones?

Sometimes headlights look strange when peering in due to all the reflections and stuff going on. Changing the dipped beam bulbs (inside the projector type thingy) for super bright ones (like osram silverstars) makes a BIG difference - i was very impressed when i did that on the old twink.

Re: 166 headlights

well, now i can see clearly at night, i bought some nice perfomance bulbs and went to put them behind the projector - took it apart to find that the bulbs that were in place wouldn;t come free, so i had to force them out, to find that the numpty who put them in before had put them upside down, and actuall not fully in at all so tyhis would explainthe weird beam shine!

Re: 166 headlights

also on the bulbs i took out, it looked a bit strange - seemed to have what looked like a second pointy bit down the shaft of the bulb, looked a bit like a candle that had been held on its side? is that normal?
