I think it may be that time... what's she worth?

A whole host of things (upcoming work on house making estates look attractive, work miles making diesels look attractive, my inability to stick to one car for more than 10 minutes) mean I think it may be time to start thinking about selling the 166.

What do you lot think I'd realistically get for this:

2000 X reg, 2.0TS lusso, 101k miles, silver with black leather, full service print and lots of receipts, cambelt and gubbins done at 84k, recent MAF and lambda, last serviced at 96k so not due for a while, good premium tyres all round, MOT until next summer (august I think).

It's in good condition - just the usual stonechips and odd carpark dink.

“If you judge a car by how it makes it you feel... the 166 is in a class of its own”

Oh dear, you've hardly had her ten minutes and such a beautiful car.

I'd recommend getting a crappy diesel estate hack and keep the 166 nice. Something dieselly, estate like and French is my suggestion.

Not quite guys.

Bobda yes ok best second equal option with Niall

Yes get a tow bar and trailer and do yourself a big favour (God ive just openned a can of worms) and slip a V6 below the bonnet.

What hes had her 10 minutes...Minch's valuation is now well out...

Depreciation in the 166 is horrendous BUT not now but roughly £200.(Only joking keep her going)

P me

About a grand in a trade in I'd say, sorry to hear you're thinking of selling.. My recommendation is to keep it, how many mpgs are you getting?

A similar performing diesel won't do all that much better, 40-45mpg fro ma 2.4JTD if you drive it like my grandma, otherwise about 35 on a 'combined' tank.

Re: I think it may be that time... what's she worth?

hmm... as I thought... the price continues to drop like a stone.

It's a toughie this. It's such a nice car that keeping it doesn't seem to make sense (it'll get trashed when I start using it for tip runs), but getting rid doesn't seem to make sense either (why bother selling when it's worth naff all... but then I didn't pay that much for it and it's done nearly 20k since).

I'm getting 31mpg combined, which is pretty good. But nothing like the 45-50mpg I'd get out of something french and rattly.

Re: I think it may be that time... what's she worth?

Yeah it's a shame for people like you who are selling, but for people such as me who is looking to get back into the Alfa fold it's a good thing.

The way fuel prices have once again sky rocketed means that people are starting to look for 1.6's and even 2 Litres are now going to be considered 'too thirsty'. Let alone big V6's that I'm always after!

But yeah, somewhere around the £1500 marker I'd say, maybe £1759 if you are lucky.

Good luck anyway mate, hope you get a good price for her,
Darren

Re: I think it may be that time... what's she worth?

have a look on e-bay, it's always a good indicator of what people are really prepared to pay. 2000 twinnies go for somewhere from £1400-1800 if they have leather and a good service history. Mileage doesn't seem to make a lot of difference unless it's really low or really high. 2 weeks ago x reg 2.5 V6 sportronic 80K miles with all the goodies and FSH, new belts etc went for £1750 (was very tempted but have same job/mileage criteria as you), this week w reg twinnie went for £1600. . I currently run a 98 Passat estate for work whilst I try to fix up my twinnie, which has lots of little things needed. However it's almost worth buying another one as it's cheaper than the cost of fixing up the old one -unless any kind forum members fancy giving me a hand for low labour costs???!. Good luck
Bob

Re: I think it may be that time... what's she worth?

just outside Basingstoke, can travel if needed -but that would mean tax and insurance so would have to be serious! Need to borrow/buy coil packs as a starting point, as although Examiner doesn't show any issues, everything points to some form of ignition type problems. Then need to sort out oil leaks then change belts. Finally probably needs new clutch or master cylinder. If it's clutch I'll book it in somewhere, but want to get it running properly first
