Squeeking Brakes

I have replaced (with non genuine parts) all the disks and pads on my 166, and now low and behold my brakes have started to squeek again.....it is only the front ones, does anyone have any ideas on what i can do to stop this?

(before you suggest fit genuine parts i did ask that question before i fitted them and people said it would be ok)

Re: Squeeking Brakes

have you put copper grease on the back of the pads? How are the discs? I wouldn't have thought that non OE pads would cause a problem...i've never had any issues, although i don't have the brembos.

Re: Squeeking Brakes

it should disappear once bed in, give it a fortnight, otherwise grease them as Niall suggests. Damn irritating noise though isn't it?

Re: Squeeking Brakes

As purple145 says, copper grease the back of the pads. If they still squeak after a fortnight take them out and clean the brake caliper and disc with a proprietary spay cleaner. Also rub the face of the pad with some emery paper to remove any glaze. That should sort it.

Re: Squeeking Brakes

Cheers guys, the reason for changing them all was because the noise was annoying, i did at the time put Copper Grease on the back of the pads(does this wear off?)

after fititng them i had peace and quiet for about 2 weeks and then the noise came back!
have done about 1000 miles with this new noise.....

will check the copper grease and put more on (how generous should i be?) and then maybe rub the pads.

yes a damn annoying noise, when you turn up in a car like a 166 you want to make an impression, and squeeking brakes is nto the way!

Re: Squeeking Brakes

Put a reasonable amount on the back of the pad by that I mean a dollop the size of a 5 pence piece in diameter and height should do it. Make sure you don't get any on the pad face.
By 1000 miles on new pads there should be no noise, if the grease and good clean plus emery paper do not do it it may need further investigation. Check for any brake fluid leaks around the piston seals and make sure the pads are seating properly.
