New MAF
Fitted a new Maf today. What a difference! Idles much better, acceleration is superb, no more flat spot. It feels like she's had a new lease of life. I am soooooooo happy.

Re: New MAF
I think I am also due a MAF, sparkle seems to have gone and there's a flat spot at 4000rpm, then it just seems to be holding back a little instead of lunging towards the horizon.

That flat spot is the dead giveaway. Change the MAF, you wont regret it. What you might regret is the price...£196

Re: New MAF
If this helps in any way, it might at least save you some money. I also had the 4000rpm flat spot on my 166 2.5 V6, and read on here it was likely to be the MAF. So, on the basis that I could not make it any worse, I removed the air filter housing and took the MAF sensor unit off the intake pipework, using long nosed pliers to grip the 2 screws. I cleaned all the exposed metal bits with nail varnish remover and cotton buds and put the whole lot back togther again. I then reset the ECU, and hey presto - flat spot has completely gone and she revs right round the dial without a stutter. Don't know whether this will last, but it has certainly cured the problem for now.
However, before you rush off and try it, I must advise that the red injector light came on after I did this and has been on since - I assume because the system recognises that something has been disturbed and therefore needs resetting, but it may be something more sinister resulting from my actions.

was it a genuine one, I thought in the end it was decided it was not, also was the MAF for a 2.0 engine, or was that the point that it also worked on the 2.5 as well, and I have been thick and not read it thoroughly.

Purple.
I thought a long time ago that the sensors may be the same.
I waited until I could buy a genuine Bosch TS maf and see if it was the same sensor.
Yes people can copy anything from DVDs to £1000 pound notes.
BUT
This was bought from a reputable dealer.
Supplied in a Bosch box.
Alfa supply the same air flow meter in a different box and more cash.
The sensor in this unit is no Bosch FC 00C 2g2 030.
The same sensor as is fitted in both my 2.5 and 3.0 .
They are the CF2 engines although the 3.0 was registered in 2001.
Check the sensor no. If it is the same then this a real bargain.Cheaper than clealing it and def cheaper than £196.(Dont know if that included labour tho'...For changing 2 screws?)
Are they made in China?
Or is it Germany?
I dont know but as far as I am concerned it is the genuine product.
So do my cars.

Re: New MAF
Going back to the orignal post, I can also confirm that a new MAF makes a huge difference. My Super feels very quick now .
In the past, there have been several people who have commented about testing 166s and finding the performance to be poor. Those cars almost certainly needed a new MAF.
Can you give some more information about the code readers, Viv?

Re: New MAF
Yes,Tony
Many of these code readers are available from china, but to save
hassell and high shipping costs try this Ebay Seller: vehicletools
(UK based),he sells the chinese scanner,I have got one and providing
your vehicle is OBD2 compliant it is a very good bit of kit it will
display stored codes and erase them, the plug for this is in the fusebox under the steering column,if you have a look on his site
it is an orange colour and currently the bid is £16.00,well worth a punt
at around the £25.00 mark.
By the way I got another spoiler for the TI from german Ebayer
Fly Design(superb service and very quick delivery by the way)
and had it painted and fitted, whilst it was in for some paintwork
a bit of a bargain around £45.00 inc. carriage when compared
to the Zender item, thanks again for this useful contact.

Re: New MAF
£196 was just for the sensor Pomeo. Got it from Andrew Page. Genuine Bosch of course.
Problems fitting it:
I decided to change the whole tube, not just the sensor, but the nuts holding the bottom clips on top of the filter housing just turned, along with the bolts which are set in plastic. Crap design.
So, just change the sensor then. The screws on the existing maf were six point security torx, so went and bought a kit. Screws on new maf were five point security whatever. Wasn't gonna spend any more so hacksawed a slot into them and used a screwdriver.
Consequently, nearly an hour for a fifteen minute job
BUT....worth it.

Hello, BP? I'd like to open an account. Hello, Shell? I'd like to open an account. Hello, ......

Are you referring to the picture posted in the thread about the Bosch MAF? http://www.alfaowner.com/Forum/alfa-...-100-70-a.html (New Bosch MAF for 166 JTD €100/£70). That is from the IMASAF firm you mentioned. Just came across it on their web site. Quite like the orange end pipes, reckon they'd look nice against a black car .

Many thanks for the info, Viv. Excuse my ignorance on these matters but would it work with a lot of different makes/models of car or do you need different connectors for each? Also, are there lists of the code numbers for each model, so you can determine the problem?

Pleasure, Viv. I'm glad it worked out. I think someone else on here bought one too.

Everybody stay calm. Don't panic. It's just the end of the world. It'll be all right, as long as we all keep chanting.

Re: New MAF
No its' the same connector for all obd 2 cars,it comes with a list
of codes in the instruction book,so all things considered a very useful
device for relatively little money.
