Leather upgrade?
Hi All,
Looked at a nice 3.0 Sportronic today - decent spec (multi-changer, sat nav - and a sunroof!) but the car has velour seats. The door panels have pale grey leather inserts so I'm thinking grey or black leather seats would be a nice upgrade - can anyone tell me if this is a difficult job (I'm assuming not)... and what I should expect to pay for a set? Plus any possible suppliers would be a bonus...
Cheers,
Jeremy

Re: Leather upgrade?
cream set just appeared on ebay.
Back seat easy the base pulls off and then undo two bolts and its off. The fronts are secured by four allen bolts IIRC, need to be connected up for the motors. There is the added complication of the airbag wiring under the fronts, I think you will have to disconnect the battery for 30 mins to power down fully, or else the airbag light on the dash will be on. That seems to be standard procedure on many models so I am assuming the 166 is no different. Time approx 2 hours.
Main issue may be transport, need a big estate car, a 166 will not do as there will be no room.

Re: Leather upgrade?
Purple has it spot on JG, I upgraded to leather and did the job, on my own in less than 2 hours, and I am certainly no mechanic ! I paid around £200 for the seats and door cards although I ended up throwing the cards on the tip, could`nt even give them away ! also my old interior which was immaculate black cloth sold for £5 yes FIVE pounds on ebay !!! so expect nothing for them, well worth the job though 166s should never have left the factory without leather in my opinion, think the door card inserts may be vynil though, mine certainly are.

Yeah, I know what you mean, Niall. The leather can be a bit chilly but at it's fine with the seat heating activated.

Re: Leather upgrade?
Thanks everyone for the info - have now purchased the Sportronic and will definitely be talking to Marco re. his black leather interior...
BTW - agree re. velour and the comfort factor. Maybe I'll keep the fronts and convert to armchairs...

Re: Leather upgrade?
I was once thinking of doing the same, only I put a 75 in there instead.

Well, if it's any consolation, I thought it was an amusing comment of yours. Brle obviously doesn't understand British humour .
