yes, I too was a victim of the 'buy for 2k' sting, my car had had a 'low mileage engine replacement' which turned out to be a right turd of a job with bits hanging off all over and the low end knock soon getting as loud as my stereo! What with everything else I have had to replace my total bill since February stands at 4.5k and I was wondering whether I'd have been better off spending all that cash on a decent lower mileage car but hey ho you never know.
If you're near Daventry you could do no worse than get in touch with Ned as Autolusso, his team just did me proud - replaced my engine along with a load of other bits and pieces for a very fair price. They seem to have all the alfa know how and a big store of new and used parts and I can highly recommend them.
£2k for a replacement 3.0 V6 fully fitted & serviced with new belts etc etc... inc CAT... that doesn't appear bad at all... i just hope i never need it!
what sort of engines are they?... i presume they are not new but reconditioned?
past reputation, poor dealer network (quality and quantity), garages that run a mile when they see one, limited parts availability (not from Alfa, but from motor factors), complexity, the list goes on.
well all i can say is that having spent the last few years punting about in silly lotus elises that snap heads at 100 paces (trust me,,, mine were very very silly!), i really didn't think that under £3k would to anything other than get me from a-b....
... having an alfa 166 v6 super in nuvola blue/green/silver has changed that... people just can't help but give it a second or third look as they stroll past... it's way more striking than any 5-series or e-class and little to they all know that i only bought one because i was too tight to buy a diesel golf! (i'll regret that after the first few tanks of fuel!)
I tried to shake off the alfa bug after my 145 and vowed 100% never to go back after the gtv... now look at me... i've bought the most silly one of the lot... the 166!
wooohooo! i've had the car for only 5 days and i've already broken it.
i returned to the car in my office car park and the auxillary belt was hanging out the front of the car (I had reversed the car back into it's parking spot).
i knew it was only a matter of time before it went, but i was hoping it might make it to Red Motori tomorrow. it will now be heading there on a car trailer on Sunday.
i can just tell that this will the sign of things to come!...
