Problems with reving in 166

HI!
i have bought an 166 T.Spark about week ago, but i started to have problems with revig.
When im starting the car after a night it dont want to rev properly, it reaches 3000RPM and then is starting to jump like kangaroo (similar when you have lack of petrol) and its doing like that for all gears, but after 20 minuts of driving its geting back to normal behavior. Then again it like to suprise on the junction. I have tried to use some petrol traetment - it helped for one day. What can it be ?

Anyway, i have an 164 T.Spark it compare to my 166 it runs like a beast from 0-60 i think there should not be so much difrence in those two cars.

Re: Problems with reving in 166

Sounds most likely the MAF's had it, a usual problem with Alfa's, usualy you notice a drop in power to start with then a flat spot, usualy abround 3500-4000rpm, then as it gets worse it will barely rev at all.

Re: Problems with reving in 166

unplug the maf,the ecu should adjust to the new mixture settings
and it may well run ok util you replace it,worked on my v6 2.5 fine.
The only thing you will notice the yellow engine management light
stays on ,easily reset.

Re: Problems with reving in 166

if the orange engine management light is on too ,i is 99% probably the MAF ,Make sure you get a bosch one also cheap copies aren't as reliable.
Had the same prob with my last 166 new maf did the trick

Re: Problems with reving in 166

There is no light on on the dashboard.
I have just taken my 166 for a ride and it was reving like brand new car with no problem, but probably next time it will be jumping like kangaroo again

P3rLuS,

I sufferred these symptoms for a while.Found out if you stop the car and start her again off she goes like the wind.
Mine are
Pomeo is a 2.5V6 pre 2001 (CF3) with the fuel injector symbol.
Lacey is a 3.0 V6 2001 (But built 2000) and pre CF3 but with engine symbol.

They had the same mafs and swapping over swapped the fault so it was the MAF.

All the foregoing is good advice and as Dawsub says go for a genuine Bosch.

P me

Re: Problems with reving in 166

Today I took the MAF off and i had reveled other problem
12.jpg 13.jpg 14.jpg
- the rubber which is comming out of the engine to the black box (called Air ducting) is broken in many places. Engine was taking too much air. I have already order the rubber along with the box (part number 60658881) for a cost of 50£. I hope that will slove the problem and there will be no need of new MAF.

Anyway the alfa quote me 140£ for new MAF. The one which i have just now is an Bosh which is dated 09/01 and its number 0280218019. I can buy it of the ebay for 38£ which is orginal BOSCH http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/BOSCH-AIR-FLOW-MASS-METER-FIAT-ALFA-145-146-SPIDER_W0QQitemZ160169766250QQihZ006QQcategoryZ103 70QQrdZ1QQssPageNameZWD1VQQcmdZViewItem.

Maybe the MAF which i have already fitted its the wrong one? my car is V-reg 2.0 T.Spark.

So shall i wait for the rubber part or just buy and MAF straight away as well ? I have found other problem in rev-meter somtimes its just sticks at 2000RPM even when the car sits down without any acceleration but it moves while accelerating.

Re: Problems with reving in 166

that's the right MAF for a CF2 engine....good price that as well! I'd try the rubbed hose (common problem that!) first but MAF's are a common problem bit and it's probably worth changing it as well.....

My items arived today, so i have fited them stright away... and i was shocked! i didnt realized that the rubber hose was in soo bad condition! look at the pictures at attachment:

So i have replaced the hose along with plastic box... and the car drives like a brand new! now problems with reving! so Definitley it was not a MAF !!! i didnt know that some rubber hose can make such a diffrence!

I have order an new BOSCH MAF as well but i wont need it any more so if anyone need one for t.spark engine give me a shout! i will give it away for a bargain price!

Well my little aberdonian friend.

To quote Tina Turner it is " SIMPLY THE BEST"

I dont have a twin spark I have 2 V6's .I believe that this fits the twinspark as listed..BUT EXCELLENT NEWS FOR V6 OWNERS Yes it has THE SAME SENSOR JUST A DIFFERENT TUBE.i REALISE THAT ADVERTISING IS FROWNED UPON but A BARGAIN IS A BARGAIN.

V6 OWNERS
DONT GIVE YOURSELF THE GRIEF IN MY POST TO MAF OR NOT TO MAF CORUPTED BY LAPTOP.
DONT CHANGE THE WHOLE TUBE ..JUST CHANGE THE SENSOR.

nOW IV'E STOCKED UP ON SPARES I'LL LET YOU ALL IN FOR A BARGAIN.
a SEARCH WILL REVEAL THEIR GLASGOW PHONE NUMBER PHONE PAUL OR DAVE AND SAY THE GUY THAT LIKES A BARGAIN ADVISED YOU.

a BARGAIN OR WHAT IVE TRIED AND TESTED IT ON POMEO AND SHE IS SO GOOD I JUST TREATED HER TO A SET OF NEW FOX R1 ALLOYSAND ITS NOT EVEN HER BIRTHDAY .HER AND LACEY ARE LIKE THE QUEEN.THEY BOTH HAVE 2 BIRTHDAYS DATE OF REGISTRATION AND DATE OF MANUFACTURE

P ME

OH I FORGOT TO MENTION THE DOWN SIDE

INSTEAD OF A 6 POINT TAMPRPROOF TORX SCREW

IT HAS A 5 POINT TAMPERPROOF SCREW...a DEAR SET IS A TENNER OUT OF HALFORDS. BUT THEY WILL COMEIN HANDY IN THE FUTURE WHEN ALL GO THAT WAY.

NB CF3 HAS A DIFFERENT SENSOR I THINK AS DIFFERENT PART NO UNLESS ANYONE KNOWS THE SENSOR NO IN A CF3 MAF.
