Central locking prob

Hi,

This is my first post.

I recently bought my 166 V6 Turbo and I couldn't be more happier with it... I love the car.

I have a problem with the central lock. I can only lock all the doors when I close them from the passengers door (inside or outside).
If I close the car from the drivers door it closes but then it unlocks the doors again.
I guess there's a prob with the passengers doors lock.
This happens when I use the remote too.

P.S.: When inside the car I can unlock the doors when I open the passengers door.

The other problem is whith the remote key range. I can only use it when pointing to the trunk and really, really close.

Any help would be great.

Thanks

Re: Central locking prob

Hi and welcome.
This is a common problem and there are a few posts on it - you can try a search. Usually it is a problem with one door lock (often seems to be the passenger door!) where the door doesn't lock and the signal sent back to the central locking and alarm system then unlocks the other doors.
The usual fix is to replace the solenoid (about £50) although there have been suggestions that a spay of WD40 can help.
It takes a while to get all the door trim off and you need small hands to get the solenoid off. A quick intemediate 'fix' is to diconnect the two wire connector while leaving the other connector on the door lock. This stops the system unlocking the other doors when the faulty door fails to lock.
Good luck,
Mike

Re: Central locking prob

Just noticed your other question, probably a dying battery in the key - cheap and easy to replace.

Re: Central locking prob

"Oh my god" ... 166 central locking again

Well, I have had every door (apart from the driver's) fail at some time or another?

In my case, it has never been anything major like a faulty door lock or solenoid but just the Alfa "quirky" electrics. What I now do -every few months - is spray plenty of WD40 down the hole of the "pop-up" black plastic door pin and also down both sides of the door window black rubber seals in the general area of the door lock and allow it to trickle down. Leave the WD40 for a few minutes before doing anything. Next operate the door locks both manually and with the remote several times!

On my 166, one or more locks seem to temporarily fail after long periods of rain or dry weather but seem to be easily corrected by the above method

I hope it works for you. (by the way, manually open the doors several times from both inside and outside the car)

It also sounds like the battery in your remote key is just low! (should work from about 40 metres especially if you touch the metal part of the key to your head while pressing the button )

Re: Central locking prob

No luck with WD40
I really didn't want to get the door trim off but I guess there is no other way. May be I should take the 166 to an electrician.

I have already changed the remote key batteries, it was the first thing I did, but nothing got better.
Does the transponder have batteries too?
When I force the alarm to go on, I also notice it sounds a bit low, is that normal?

By the way, is there a 166 wokshop manual available at internet?

Thanks for the replies.

Re: Central locking prob

that's the 2.0 v6 turbo that was only offered in europe....more of a tax dodge than a performance thing IIRC.

Re: Central locking prob

Certainly you never drove one. Here are the specs.:

MAX SPEED / 0 to 100KM/H
213 Kms/h - 9.6 secs. - 2.0 T.S
225 Kms/h - 8.4 secs. - 2.5 V6
238 Kms/h - 8.1 secs. - 2.0 V6 TB
243 Kms/h - 8.0 secs. - 3.0 V6

And lets not talk about torque...

Any help with the car transponder would be great. Thanks.

Re: Central locking prob

oh, the central locking.. ..the receiver/ siren /backup battery is in the boot, on the right hand side under the rrelays and fuses. maybe its broken, i suggest you find another 166 owner and see if they want to let you swap the receivers and take it from there..

Re: Central locking prob

I guess the receiver is in the central stop light not the boot.

Re: Central locking prob

If it isn't the lack of power issue, it's the reliability question...

Am I in a Bemmers or Mercs forum???

Re: Central locking prob

My central locking started playing up yesterday - Rear NS door showing as open on dash even when closed so this must be the problem.

Will try WD40 (Crossed fingers). If not will remove trim for a check - I may be back with more questions! My wife noted that the locking kicked up and down a couple of times when indicators or wipers operated (not all the time though) - Anyone else had this?

Re: Central locking prob

Many years ago I had a problem with the open door signal on a Lancia Dedra's dash . Try to push the door when closed and see if the signal turns off.

I had to replace the lock to solve my problem in the 166 and now it's like new again.
WD40 didn't do the trick for me but if might work with you. Good luck.
