Hmmm Central Locking not working

Hi,

I'm trying to sort out a friend's 166 and one of the items on the list is that the Central Locking doesn't work.

None of the fuses appear to have blown and the little light on the key flashes when you press any of the buttons, but nothing happens.

Also I suspect connected - trying to activate the central locking from the door locks on the driver's or passanger doors doesn't do anything either.

Any thoughts?

This is a Y reg 166 with the 3 litre engine and sporttronic box.

Cheers,

Julian

Re: Central Locking not working

So none of the locks go down when you use the key in door?
Does this affect both driver's side and passenger side?
Does the alarm come on when you use key?
The ariel for the alarm is located in the rear screen stop light box, it may have come disconnected.
The solenoid/motor in driver's door may be jiggered or perhaps there is a relay for door solenoids somewhere that is loose/knackered, can't remember and can't be bothered to check...

OK, I'lll start to look around for a loose solenoid - is this common with the Alfas?

Cheers,

Julian

Re: Central Locking not working

Total failure not common. Quite common for a single door motor to fail. Your fault sounds like a power failure. I am at work now so don't have my handbook. Have you located the correct fuse?? If yes then relay seems next option. Will look for info tommorow.

Re: Central Locking not working

The central locking on my 166 is a nightmare!

Every door (apart fom the drivers) has failed at some time.

Usually they have been cured by spraying WD40 down the plastic pin hole or by repeatedly opening and closing the doors using the inside and outside handles and pushing the pin down and unlocking. Never been a fuse or door lock motor gone and often they just cure themselfs when used the next day

Re: Central Locking not working

i have a sinilar problem with my 1999 3.0 166 , is getting worse , when you click the remote some buttons stay down , the drivers door button goes up and down a few times , to get in you have to time it and pull the handle while the buttons up , after a few trys the key is the only way to open the drivers door and the other doors buttons stay down, when you lock it only the drivers door locks the drivers side rear door fails to do anything. i am suspecting the rear door mechanism is effecting them all but if anyone knows where the relay is for the central locking , can you let me know . i have tried lubricating the buttons, is quite frustrating. cheers

Re: Central Locking not working

Usually one solenoid gets lazy so the system unlocks them all again, try taking the door card off the suspect one, and squirting when you have better access.
