Just been having a trawl through various sites before I pick up my 166 and came across a piece of information that scares me somewhat. Apparently without the burgundy key, if your battery goes flat, or is removed, you are up sh*t creek without a paddle. The guy who is selling me the car says he has never had one.
I don't know what he is talking about. A full set of keys is 2 with the alarm/central locking button on and 1 "valet" key. this is just a plain key that I think only does the ignition.
the only reason disconnecting the battery can be a pain is if you don't have the ICS code and Sat nav codes. Do make sure you get them.

Yep, I agree with Mitch, the burgundy valet key is not critical - it is the GTV's "red key" of old that is so important and I think alot of Alfa owners assumed it was the same for the 166. Not so.
