Re: Ebay Facelift 166
This is exactly the right price for a facelift, this is what I have been
saying on the many posts lately ,discussing the inflated prices
dealers are asking for these cars, this one is high on miles for an
04 plate, and of course has the cambelt etc. been changed in line
with the latest 36k. sevice interval?
Lets' be honest what was a 3yr. old t/spark with highish miles
worth before the facelift came along.not very much ,deprecation was
horrendous ,so I think a good deal of realism is called for when
valuing one of these.

I actually bought a 04 facelift (3.0 V6) with 56K on the clock, and a new cambelt/tensioners etc) for around 7K a few months ago. My previous 166 (T-reg) had done 110K effortlessly when I sold it, so high miles are not an issue for me. The week before I had driven a black 51 plate model at Mangoletsi and they were quoting around 8K. There seems to be a massive differential between what you can get privately and through a garage wrt facelift 166s. I think if you really want one, you need to have a three month window, and hang on until one becomes available in the 7-10K price range. I have seen a number in the 7-10K range this year with mileage varying between 25-50ish K, but all sold within a day or two of going on sale.

Excellent buy at £7k! Was that the privately owned 3.0 sportronic
that was on Autotrader a while ago?

Re: Ebay Facelift 166
lol looking at that 166 ive just realised why i dont like the facelift, it looks like a cut and shut. from the base of the A pillar rearwards it is a proper 166 and from the A pillar forwards it looks like the front end of ANother eurobox has just been (badly) welded in place. the front just doesnt match the back, i hadnt realised before how different the front wings and bonnet are on the facelift. dont get me wrong it looks much more modern than the original, i just dont like it, oh and that steering wheel is but i wouldnt mind the 3.2 v6 engine

Re: Ebay Facelift 166
Good point I was able to examine in detail the differences between
the facelift at NAD and the original cars and in some respects it doesn't
stand up too well,I think the worst aspect of the early car are the headlamps,I think that the grille flows into the bonnet perfectly,
have a look at the original 166 head on ,it still looks a handsome
purposeful car, whereas the facelift has a more modern corporate
look it doesn't actually blend in with the rest of the car, having said that, definately some worthwhile improvements, and I have to say
a3.2 TI in the right colour combination would still be a very desirable car.

Re: Ebay Facelift 166
That is a much more realistic price. I like both the origional and the facelift. I hope to have the 3.2 one day.......................

Am I the only one to actually prefer the new style steering wheel to the the old one?

Yes, the same one. It's my third Alfa after a owning a T-reg 166 and then a 156. The 156 was great fun, but there is something about a 166 that always made me want another.
