166 Rear wishbone bushes

I read in this forum about the possibility of replacing the rear wishbone bushes with powerflex bushes (no need to buy whole arm).
I took off one of the arms and noticed that the inner bush (attaching to the rear subframe) swivels, which means it has a ball joint in it (similar to the one at the bottom of the rear hub).

The question therefore is: Do the powerflex bushes incorporate a ball joint? If not, how do they cope with the arm movement ?

Re: 166 Rear wishbone bushes

I have some reservations about Powerflex bushes in this application, although I have not actually seen what they offer.
When I needed to fix mine the Powerflex option was not available.

The problem I had was that the rubber bit that surrounds the ball joint had started to perish. The actual ball joint was OK and the front bush was also fine.

The normal solution for this is to replace the complete arm. However, I sorted mine by re-moulding the ball join into its outer sleeve using some two pack urethane rubber.

The chemicals are about £50 (enough for about 10 bushes) and you need to make a mould on a lathe. Drawings, info. and pictures are available for anyone interested.

Re: 166 Rear wishbone bushes

There is a U.K. distributor for Sidem who can supply these bushes, Can post info. When I enquired no stock and would have to wait for his next big stock order from belgium, perhaps if all of us that are interested could all hit him with the same enquiry?
