Handbraketrouble 166

Just replaced my rear brakepads, only a couple of millimeters left on the old ones. The job was no sweat, but now the handbrake works poorly and the lever needs to be pulled up very high.... Everything worked fine before the switch.
Anyone with any tips? Would suspect the cables, but as i wrote it worked fine before...
Thanks! /Martin

Try adjustment under the level - Take off gaiter and tighten up adjuster to reduce travel and increase effectiveness.

thanks for info vivian, found your reply
Havent made any difference for me unfortunately. Got tip from other forum that possibly the arm that wire connects to on caliper may not go all the way to position. will try to help them along.

Auto adjuster needs to reset itself and they're not very quick about it. Give it a while to settle and travel shoul reduce gradually. Try pressing the pedal to give the pads a bit more movemeny as you pull handbrake lever up to try and "get over the next click" of the auto adjuster.

Thanks for info Quadcamboy! Were at it again today and i think i got it to work fairly good. Feels like the pads are sticking a bit though, hope it will sort itself out with time. Jiggled the arm that connects to the wire a couple of times, helped it back to position. Hope you understand what i mean Still feels like the spring is to weak to get the arm back to position all the way... Is there a better replacement?

Sounds like you need new cables - The spring will pull the arm back fine but not if cables are starting to seize.

Mine was not releasing at one side - New cables a couple of weeks ago and all fine now.

Dougie, yes i suspected this might be the case. Just looking for a way to postpone the wire-replacement a year or so. A "few" other bugs on the car that really should get some attention first. But you never know when something break down i suppose. Seems to be working ok now, but a wirechange is definately planned!
