Help Code light on, car not starting!!

Help!! As the title says!!

I have tried both keys and it is the same, engine turns fine, just does not fire. The code key light stays on.

I have done a forum search and the best I can come up with is to check the connections at the immobiliser box and the ariel in the ignition barrell.

Does anyone have a clue where this box is so I can check??

Many thanks.

Re: Code light on, car not starting!!

Ok panic over (for now!) I found this thread

http://www.alfaowner.com/Forum/alfa-...ode-light.html

I found the immobiliser box under the steering column. Unplugged the 2plugs, plugged them in again and car started first time. Bosch Box of tricks mande in Australia!! (Bloody Italian electrics they say!)

Wil post a pic of location soon and will let you know if the problem returns. For now I'm very happy! (or is that relieved??!!)

Here is some pics of the location of the electronic module for the immobiliser. Hope you never have to find it!

Re: Code light on, car not starting!!

I was asked by a mate last Wednesday how the car had performed on our recent 2700 mile road trip. Fine I replied no problems what so ever, a joy to own and drive

I then went outside and the bloomin thing wouldn't start It finally burst into life after the 4th or 5th attempt but I had noticed the imob light being illuminated during cranking.

I hasn't done it again but I today decided to drop the pannel (shown above) and follow the instructions.

Re: Code light on, car not starting!!

Heres a real weird one. My key fob is operating the alarm function on the car but wont activate the door locks. Is there a method for re-calibrating the key to the car or do i have to consult alfa themselves. Also the car is randomly cutting out on me and i get the key code light up on the screen. After about 10 mins of faffing about and arming and unarming the alarm the car lets me start it again. Its also just doing random stuff, when i put the key in the door to manually lock it it locks and unlocks the doors about 4 times. Also coupled with this im getting what looks like the fuel injector symbol on the car dash, particularly under heavy braking or going quickly around corners. When this light comes on the car just cuts out and thats when i usually get the key code light. Im bloody confused and my next stop is an alfa dealer, just wondered if any of you guys had experienced anything similar.

Hmmm Re: Code light on, car not starting!!

Hi...I'm new to this site but am happy to see someone else has experienced the problem that I am currently having....It is the exact same symptons....Light on dash...Car is turning over but lacking the final kick of life. Its a 146...
My problem arose after changing out the engine and gear box from a crashed car into my own.(As a result of hitting a flood!!!) This swop out went beautifully BUT cannot start the car now...
I tried the second key but no good.
I disconnected the immobilizer box after reading the thread here and the light goes off the dash only to return when i reconnect the immoblizer box (which is yellow!!!)
I checked the Fuel pump reset button which was fine...
Also checked the relays near the battery and they are switching when the ignition is switched on/off (can feel them switch - did not check voltage)
Any Suggestions accepted....Am willing to try anything...!!!

Re: Code light on, car not starting!!

Jimjim was a 146, which suggests the relays by the battery which are a weak spot on the 145/6, as your problem is in the same area and IIRC the 156 also has relays around the battery area, I would start there, check every relay, connector, terminal and earth and 9 times out of 10 its fixed.

Re: Code light on, car not starting!!

indeed it was!

replaced fuel pump relay cabling. now I have a working Alfa again.
replaced the clutch myself, saved a goodly sum doing so and the only additional cost was bunging £40 to a friendly garage to find it!

overall a win..I think!
