Alfa 166 G3 Sat Nav latest CD?

Good morning

As some of you know, I've just bought a lovely black Alfa 166.

She's done some miles, and I have been so taken by the car , I want to return her to former glory, so heading to body shops today to look at respraying some parts of the car due to numerous stone chips.

Anyway, back to the point!,.. the CD in the Sat Nav is year 2000!!, as such it doesnt have my house . I went to Alfa, but they want £165!!!

Is there any way I can get hold of a CD for the car for a lot less?, you can buy complete sat nav systems for less than that these days.

thanks

Joe

yeah, it is a bit crazy....somebody mentioned the drives being compatible with another make (was it GM?) - maybe it's possible to download the UK cd for that and do some fiddling....over my head though

Yes, that would be because you have the G2 unit unfortunately.

they still update for the 2001 166's and onwards, I am still hoping to see one one ebay or something like that because all my money is going on all the other bits and bobs for the car!

thanks

I've searched high and low and not been able to find a 'cheap' disc, so decided to go the whole hog and order one from Navteq directly, still £100 though!

Re: Alfa 166 G3 Sat Nav latest CD?

Does anyone know what make the CD reader is in the 166?? Mine is an early car 1999 and won't take the £100 disc I wish I hadn't bought from Navteq.....they won't refund because it has been opened and how else would I have found out it doesn't work in my car.....needs to be later model!!

You could have sold it for £80 to doctorfrag and you'd have both been happy

Tony It looks as if doctorfrags is a g2 too.
So my guess it wouldn't work like mike has found out.
His disc is 2000.

If navteq didn't specify what year alfa & what model satnav, they are liable for any issues relating to whether it works or not.

Quote Britsish consumer law to them & see if they change their mind about retail - distance selling regs & all that.

Re: Alfa 166 G3 Sat Nav latest CD?

Someone mentioned that the SATNAV is compatible with some other make of car, if this is possible then i'm sorted. I live in Dubai, and because there are a handful of Alfa Romeo cars in general, let alone the 166, Alfa Romeo just did'nt bother to make SATNAV available for this market. I emailed NavTeq and they don't make maps for the United Arab Emirates.

Any ideas people? All the Bimmers and Mercs have working GPS and that irritates me bigtime.. I want mine to work too!! Anyway, any ideas are greatly appreciated.

Cheers

Re: Alfa 166 G3 Sat Nav latest CD?

the only car that was directly comaptible was the lancia lybra but it's the same system so mapping might be tricky. There has been talk before of some opel discs being compatible but i don't know which ones or how to make them work....

Mine must have a recentish disk in it, it's a G3 unit tho. I'll copy it and seed it on TPB if anyones interested. Or does the unit not read copies?

I use Toast Titanium on my iMac, Mac's and Alfa's go together!

PC's go with Nissan Skyline GT-whatevers!

Linux is probably a better partner for alfa's...you need to get your handy dirty and it can be swine to trouble shoot
