The Opel disc at El Barto's link is working fine for me, so I guess I have a g3 system. Now I'm on a hunt for Central European discs.....

That's interesting....it wouldn't work for me, maybe I'll try a different CD-R and have another go.

The emule Opel ones didn't work for me either, I deffo have a G3, 2002 car; they seemed to half-load but not work. I just put the CD in and switched on, nav came up but I couldn't work anything. Maybe there's a 'procedure' in it!

Are they much different? I know they'll have updated roads etc but is the interface any better? Sick of that green, green, green....

Re: Alfa 166 G3 Sat Nav latest CD?

Mine is a 2001 car, but most definately a G3 unit, although the ICS firmware is early-ish (based on something I saw in an ICS thread). Navteq can supply a current CD for it and when they release their next new one, I'll get it. At the moment, their current one is 2007/8 so I'll wait a bit for the 2009/10. Meantime, I'll manage with the 2002 disc that's in it now.

Don't much like the choice of colours either. Not very attractive is it.

Ah, now that's interesting....I just looked on the Navteq site - they are doing a summer sale. Our maps are down to £77. Expect the new maps very soon!!

2007 - Alfa 166

So, buy the 2007/8 maps for £77 or wait for the 2009/10 maps and pay at least £100 or probably more like £120

Decisions decisions......

Re: Alfa 166 G3 Sat Nav latest CD?

New Navteq CD arrived and installed. Took ages. Updated ICS, NAV & Phone software. All working now...same old dingy colour scheme though

Out of interest, I think I'll try one of the Opel CDs again now the software has updated. Never know......

Re: Alfa 166 G3 Sat Nav latest CD?

Guys, i'm thinking about trying out the Garmin GVN53.. thought uploading this might help especially for those of us in South Africa or the Middle East, and i think Australia and New Zealand (may be wrong). We didn't get GPS from Alfa... dunno why, but yeah... anyway.. Any Commentary on this will be greatly appreciated..

See the spec sheet below.. apparently it can be connected to the ICS. I am still scratching around for more information..

GAR-GARMIN GVN53 WITHOUT DATAT V4 NT

Navigate with Your Entertainment SystemGVN 53 turns your vehicle's audio/video system into a powerful street navigator. Look up and route directly to specific addresses or points of interest — such as restaurants, hotels, gas stations, retail shops or ATMs — while viewing your exact location on detailed street maps. It even announces the name of exits and streets through your car's speakers so you never have to take your eyes off the road. Map graphics are shown on your system's integrated video display. GVN 53 comes preloaded with detailed City Navigator® NT map data, and its card slot makes it easy to plug in additional map detail from optional MapSource® mapping products.
Add Traffic, Weather and RadioWith an optional XM antenna and a subscription to XM services, you can check the weather, move ahead of traffic and listen to XM radio when you travel with GVN 53. As an alternative, GVN 53 can receive optional TMC traffic alerts (in select cities) when used with a compatible traffic receiver.
Operate with Ease GVN 53 installs out-of-sight and is easy to use. Hide the GVN 53 under a car seat using the included mounting hardware, and operate it easily with the included wireless remote control. Use the remote to navigate the menu on your video display and make selections to find it and go.
Customize Your Video Settings GVN 53 simultaneously outputs both NTSC composite video and RGB with the addition of a custom harness, so you can choose your video output. Its advanced video settings allow screen position to be adjusted for easy viewing from any angle.
¹requires custom harness for RGB

Professional installation is recommended.
Display quality will vary depending on the screen being used. For best results and to ensure customer satisfaction, Garmin recommends testing GVN 53 with a specific display model before installing.
